PROTEOGLYCAN

PROTEOGLYCAN

What is it?

Proteoglycans are natural macromolecules that are capable of restoring epidermal cells and intensifying the metabolism of connective tissue components, restoring the skin’s functions, mechanical properties and physiological appearance. They are formed by a carrier protein that different glycosaminoglycan (GAG) chains are covalently attached to: hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulphate/dermatan sulphate, keratan sulphate, heparan sulphate/heparin…

What is it for?

Proteoglycans carry out the following activities within connective tissue: they increase cell proliferation and metabolism, they increase fatty acid turnover, they have anti-inflammatory activity, they accelerate the healing process, they increase the connection of cells with the extracellular components in their environment, they increase communication between cells, they have a structural function within connective tissue, they regulate the water content of connective tissue and its water retention capacity.

Given the ability of these polysugars to retain water, they can absorb up to 1000 times their volume of water, thus helping to keep the skin turgid and hydrated.

Where can I find it?

As one of MartiDerm’s main ingredients, proteoglycans are contained in a wide range of products: in the Hydro and Pure Mask face masks, in Proteoglicanos, Proteoglicanos SPF, Liposomas and Photo-Age ampoules and in Modelift body cream.
