Ascorbic acid or vitamin C is a keto-lactone with various physiological functions: it acts as a cofactor for multiple enzymes involved in collagen synthesis; it protects p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate oxidase, which is involved in tyrosine metabolism; it stimulates the synthesis of collagen (multiplying its production in fibroblasts by four), proteoglycans and other organic components of the intercellular matrix.
Vitamin C has a high antioxidant capacity, as it acts by neutralising the cell damage caused by free radicals, reducing hyperpigmentation of the skin and improving the appearance of photo-aged skin.
It is also essential for maintaining physical integrity, particularly regarding connective tissue repair and collagen formation.
Thanks to these properties, Vitamin C is one of the main ingredients used in MartiDerm’s product range and can be found at different concentrations in all the ampoules (Proteoglicanos, Proteoglicanos FPS, Liposomas, Photo-Age, Alfa-Peeling, Skin Complex+) and in some of the products in the Pigment Zero depigmenting range (DSP-Crema FPS 50+ y en la DSP-Mask).
