Vitamin K oxide is necessary for the synthesis of prothrombin (factor II) and clotting factors VII, IX and X. Vitamin K oxide blocks the formation of haemosiderin, as it prevents the extravasation of blood.

Its topical use is indicated for the prevention and treatment of post-operative bruising.
