These are two new treatments in MartiDerm’s Black Diamond range, formulated specifically to treat expression lines and wrinkles in the area surrounding the eyes and the lips.
Today we’re going to tell you a little more about how this revolutionary treatment works.
What is iontophoresis?
The term “iontophoresis” comes from the Greek “ionto” (ion) and “phoresis” (transmission). It is a non-invasive technique used in medicine for various therapeutic and diagnostic aims; in this case, it is used for cosmetic purposes.
Iontophoresis is based on ionised ingredients penetrating into the skin through the continuous application of a weak electric current, which safely and painlessly delivers the ingredients to the deepest layers of the skin, by placing two electrodes on the surface.
The scientific foundation of the technique is that ionised substances or ingredients carry an electric charge and tend to move towards the opposite pole, where the body’s tissues absorb them. In this way, it is possible to achieve a noticeable effect from the first application with no need to use infiltration techniques.
Some of the most common uses of the technique in medicine are in treating hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) and in physiotherapy to treat acute inflammation of the muscles or joints.

Follow the steps below to apply our iontophoresis patches:
- Carefully wash the skin of the area you’re going to treat.
- Apply the ionised gel to the conductive patch.
- Place the patch on the area to be treated.
- After the end of the recommended application period, remove the patch and wash off the excess gel.
Both Ionto Lift Eye Contour and Ionto Filler Lip Contour use gels with tensing and filling active ingredients for a lifting effect in the area surrounding the eyes and a filling effect in the area around the lips.
